LISBOA, PORTUGAL 2016-2018
A client from Stockholm asks us to organize a holiday apartment on the top floor of a 19th century building. XVIII next to the Cathedral of Lisbon, in the middle of classified area of Baixa Pombalina.
Almost all of the 20 m2 space is just over 1 meter high...In order to stretch our backs, we created some bumps on the roof of the building, (physical and heritage upsets...) that work like zinc periscopes looking over the Sé, Lisbon and the Tagus. The ceiling is a wooden floor like the floor, to increase the space. The windows are white boxes to increase the light. The only wall is black to make the boundary less noticeable. Some mirrors try to conquer non-existent square meters. In such a small space, all the little details, intersections and edges are right in front of our eyes, and sometimes too close to our heads...
We even designed the sockets, switches and other appliances in brass, with small toggle buttons from the latest electronics stores in Baixa and oxidized black screws from Fábrica Fluorescent. I remember visiting the Moryama* house in Tokyo a few years ago and the owner explaining that the advantage of a small house is being able to see things up close.
